NEXT 'CHUNK YOUR JUNK' EVENT HAPPENS SATURDAY, AUGUST 16;
CITY'S ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES HONORED FOR JOINT FRISCO ISD RECYCLING
PROGRAM
(August 14, 2008) Is your old paperwork piling up? Is your garage full of
furniture, toys and chemicals that are way past their prime? Here is a
chance to manage the mess. Bring your discards to the next 'Chunk Your
Junk' event on Saturday, August 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. The one-stop drop
off for all your unwanted items is located at 6616 Walnut St., next door
to the City of Frisco's Environmental Collection Center. For directions
to the facility call 972-292-5900.
The following items will be accepted for safe disposal, recycling or
donation: appliances, batteries, carpet, cell phones, computers,
electronics, exercise equipment, fax machines, fencing, furniture,
household chemicals (gasoline, paints, pesticides and solvents), brush and
limbs, metal, printers, old clothes and other donation items. There will
be a $40 charge for all items requiring Freon extraction which will be
applied to the next utility bill. A driver's license and current water
bill are required for all chemical, electronic and appliance drop off.

Do not risk identity theft by tossing your personal information in the
trash. A free paper shredding service will also be on site to safely
recycle unwanted documents. There is a four-box limit per household, with
box size not to exceed 12" W x 15.5" L x 10.5" H. We cannot accept
commercial paperwork.
Show up early! This popular program sponsored by the City of Frisco
Environmental Services Division continues to grow in popularity. In order
to provide the best service, no vehicles will be allowed in line after
11:30 p.m. to make sure everyone already in line can make it through the
drop-off stations.
Drivers should be aware of the traffic route around the drop-off location.
To improve traffic flow, vehicles will not be able to go north on First or
Second Streets to get to Walnut. Instead, vehicles will be rerouted down
eastbound Main Street to North County Road and from North County Road to
First Street. The drop-off line will form in a southbound direction on
First Street. The line will then wind around to eastbound Walnut.
Electronic signs will be posted along the route to help guide drivers.

The City of Frisco's Environmental Services Division was recently honored
for its work with the Frisco Independent School District. The 2008
Environmental Leadership Award from the Greater DFW Recycling Alliance was
awarded for best government program. The 'reduce, reuse and recycle'
theme for the 2007-2008 school year included a zero-waste lunch day where
everything served was either biodegradable or recyclable including the
lunch trays. A phone book recycling contest collected more than 24,000
books - the equivalent of saving 1,250 trees. A battery recycling program
collected an estimated 53,500 batteries, or 2.3 tons of batteries that did
not end up in a landfill.
"The younger generation is moving our city to the future, said Jeremy
Starritt," Environmental Education Coordinator for
"They are the ones who go home and implement the recycling efforts we
teach. Most people are not necessarily willing to change their habits, but
when their children come home with new habits the behavior usually becomes
status quo faster." Starritt also credits PTA groups for helping the
Frisco ISD Green Team succeed.
