CREWS WORKING TO REPAIR NATURAL GAS LEAK; SECTION OF 6TH STREET CLOSED
(January 15, 2008) Frisco Firefighters are monitoring a natural gas leak
near the intersection of Hickory Street and 6th Street. An excavation
crew with Atmos arrived at the scene just before 3:30. Utility crews
estimate it will take at least an hour to ‘shut off’ gas to the line.
Firefighters say residents may hear a loud ‘noise’ and smell gas until the
line is capped; however, the gas levels are minute and there is no threat
to residents in the area. Frisco has received reports of a ‘gas odor’
within a mile of the site where the line was cut.
Crews have closed 6th Street between Ash and Pecan and Hickory Street
between 5th and 7th while repairs are underway.
Firefighters were alerted to the gas leak at approximately 2:30 p.m. after
a crew working on the reconstruction of Hickory Street inadvertently cut
the gas line. Firefighters and Atmos officials will continue to monitor
the gas levels in the area until the leak is repaired.
