Frisco Police to Step Up DWI Patrols through the Holidays
********************************************
The following information is distributed from the City of Frisco's News
and Information service.
********************************************
(December 19, 2007) Starting December 21 and running through January 1,
Frisco Police will be staffing additional officers to patrol the streets
with the purpose of targeting drunk drivers. The additional patrols are
part of a partnership between the Frisco Police Department and the Texas
Department of Transportation through an Impaired Driving Mobilization
(IDM) Grant. The grant will also provide for extra patrols during other
holiday periods in 2008, including: Spring Break, July 4th, and Memorial
Day.
Impaired Drivers contribute to nearly half of the traffic fatalities each
year nationwide. Frisco has had two fatality crashes involving intoxicated
drivers in 2007. Frisco Police would like to offer the following tips to
remember this holiday season:
1. Designate a driver.
2. Be cautious of possible impaired drivers around you and get away from
them as quickly as possible.
3. Refuse to get into a car with an intoxicated driver.
The Frisco Police Department hopes that the additional patrols will help
keep the roadways free of impaired drivers this holiday season making
streets safer for everyone.
