LIGHTNING SPARKS HOUSE FIRE, DAMAGES ESTIMATED AT $500,000; NO INJURIES
(February 12, 2008) Firefighters say lightning caused an overnight house
fire that destroyed a home in the 5100 block of Iroquois Drive. No one
was hurt. Damages to property and contents are estimated at approximately
$500,000.
Dispatchers received a 911 call at 1:48 from the homeowners, who said
their smoke detectors were 'going off'. When firefighters arrived at 5133
Iroquois Drive at 1:54 a.m., they found heavy flames coming from the attic
of the two-story home. Initially, firefighters attacked the fire from the
inside the 4,600 square foot home but were forced back out of the home and
attacked the fire using aerial ladders. The fire was under control at
2:38 a.m.
"Since firefighters knew the family was outside and safe, they choose to
attack the fire defensively from the outside to control the fire and
protect neighboring homes," said Chief Mack Borchardt.
